I'm Embarrassed About My Acne Scars

Acne scars are the backhanded slap to your skin once you clear a case of acne. Even if you’re no longer bothered by pimples or cysts, you may be left with a series of common scars that disfigure your skin, including:

About 95% of acne patients have some scarring. In about half of those cases, the scarring is significant. If you’re really unlucky, you may be left with raised scars that are highly visible, such as keloid scars or hypertrophic scars.

When your skin isn’t uniform and smooth, it doesn’t appear healthy, either. You may be embarrassed that you continue to have skin problems well into your 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond.

Luckily, most acne scars don’t have to leave you scarred for life. New advances in laser technology help your skin break up the disorderly collagen clumps that form scars and rebuild your skin to be healthy and smooth.

The Rheumatology Center of New Jersey offers acne scar treatment at our Sirens Medspa in Somerville, New Jersey. Our aesthetic and medical professionals offer skin rejuvenation and acne scar treatment with the Alma® Opus® Plasma noninvasive radiofrequency (RF) Fractional Plasma® device.

Opus’ first-of-its-kind technology addresses superficial to complex textural and skin-quality concerns. Compared to traditional lasers, it has less downtime and fewer side effects.

How can the Opus help you with your acne scars? The Opus’ energy helps your skin heal itself. Here’s how.

The Opus breaks up scar tissues

When you have acne lesions, the follicles in your skin are distended and inflamed by the presence of excess sebum, plugs of dried skin, and bacteria. The inflammation damages the follicle.

An acne scar is actually a sign that your skin was hard at work, trying to repair the damage left by an acne lesion. Unfortunately — as in other types of scars — in the rush to repair the damage, your skin creates excess collagen, which may then form raised scars.

Pitted and depressed scars are a result of damage that extends deep into the skin, leading to a loss of tissue. Whether your scars are depressed or raised, they’re both the result of an overzealous healing process.

The Opus first heats up the skin with plasma energy to break up the disorderly arrays of collagen that form scar tissue. Plasma is made of charged gas molecules that contain a mix of positively and negatively charged ions.

The Opus stimulates healing

By applying the correct amount of energy to your scar tissue and surrounding healthy tissue, Opus stimulates your skin to heal. The ultra-high frequency stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin.

But rather than stitching together the skin haphazardly, as scar tissue does, the new Opus-stimulated collagen remodeling is healthy and orderly. Your skin rebuilds itself as if it were younger and stronger. And, in a sense, it is.

The Opus resurfaces your skin from the inside out. New collagen and elastin smooth out your skin’s surface and increase your skin’s strength and flexibility.

Easier than lasers

The Opus has less downtime than traditional laser treatments. Treatments are fast, too. We can resurface your entire face in just 10-15 minutes.

Depending on the severity of your scars, you may need a series of up to three treatments. But many women and men are happy with the changes they see after just one treatment. Because the Opus works with your skin’s natural healing and rebuilding powers, it may take a few weeks before you see results.

Another benefit of the Opus is that it improves the overall quality and health of your skin. You’re less likely to suffer future outbreaks after treatment with Opus. You may also notice an improvement in other skin issues, including fine lines and wrinkles.

If you’re ready to put acne and acne scars in the closet with your yearbooks, contact our aesthetics team or our office nearest you, in Monroe, Flemington, or Somerville, New Jersey, for an Opus treatment today.
